French Metal Band Gojira Gives Electrifying Performance at Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

One of France’s own, metal band Gojira, took the stage at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony to kick off the games with an electrifying performance. They are the first metal band to ever play at the Olympics, and it seems like Paris is bringing out all their favorites for the event. In addition to Gojira, Quebecois sweetheart Celine Dion will also live for the first time since 2020.

Gojira, meanwhile, gave an energetic performance alongside Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti for an incredible once-in-a-lifetime set. It’s not everyday that a lauded opera singer takes the stage with a heavy metal band, but the Paris Olympics isn’t pulling any punches. The Opening Ceremony included a selection of both French and international musicians from across many different genres, truly encompassing the spirit of the games.

Following a scene from Les Misérables, Gojira performed on the side of an elaborate building in the city, where Viotti floated by on a gilded ship facade. In every window of the building, there were women representing Marie Antoinette. Additionally, pyrotechnics and streamers went off to complete the theatrics.

Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Gojira Joined by Favored French Performers for Olympic Opening Ceremony

In addition to Celine Dion performing “La Vie en Rose,” and Gojira and Marina Viotti joining forces, many beloved French stars took the stage at the Opening Ceremony.

French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura performed a song by famed French tenor Charles Aznavour, putting a new spin on it with a the orchestra of the French Republic Guard. Additionally, pianist Sofiane Pamart and singer-songwriter Juliette Armanet will sing a duet, while composer and singer Philippe Katerine, drummer Marc Cerrone, and rapper Rim’K of the group 113 will also take stages around Paris.
