The last year watched as a drastic shift took place in the music industry. While Taylor Swift dominated the world with her Eras Tour, Beyoncé showcased her wide range in music when she decided to branch into country music. And seeming to pave the way for others, Post Malone also prepares for his debut country album, F-1 Trillion. But while artists expand their careers, Exodus guitarist Gary Holt recently criticized Beyoncé for being “the most overrated talent on earth.” Although not mixing words, Holt took time to praise Swift.

Appearing on the Scandalous podcast, Holt wondered why Swift received a mountain of backlash over the last year and not Beyoncé. Trying to understand the love for Beyoncé, Holt said, “Beyoncé will put out a song and there’s 30 f**kin’ people on [the credits]. How can 30 people write a song all gathered together? It’s like you’re not a songwriter, Beyoncé.”
Not just criticizing Beyoncé, Holt offered an explanation behind his thoughts. “I mean, her daughter got a songwriting credit and a Grammy because she probably threw some kindergarten rhyme on one line and like, ‘Yep! Give her a Grammy.’ She now has one seventh of the Grammys Prince — the greatest artist that ever was or ever will be — ever got.”
Gary Holt Praises Another Singer Alongside Taylor Swift
As for his thoughts on Swift, Holt had an entirely different reaction, insisting, “Taylor writes everything. So I give her credit. She’s a songwriter. And some of these other people require massive teams — just like a factory of songwriting. Who even knows who did what anymore?” The musician continued to praise Swift as he recounted her paying the truck drivers for her tour $100,000 in bonuses.
Not finished with Beyoncé, Holt concluded, “Beyoncé, the ball’s in your court. What are you tipping your drivers? Probably f**kin’ nothing. I don’t know. Maybe she’s super generous. I think Beyonce is the most overrated talent on earth. I think she’s marginally talented.”
Outside of bashing Beyoncé and praising Swift, Holt also gushed over Adele, who he considered “the greatest singer of the last f**kin’ 30 years.”
