Carly Pearce Goes Full Carrie Underwood With “Truck on Fire”, New Revenge Anthem Headed to Country Radio

Carly Pearce is celebrating the Top 5 success of her Chris Stapleton collaboration “we don’t fight anymore.” Yet, she isn’t hitting the brakes on new music.

Pearce, who recently revealed she’s suffering from a heart condition called Pericarditis, is gearing up to release “truck on fire” to country radio. The foot-stomping sing-along is a favorite among her female fans and offers alternative ways to deal with a different kind of broken heart.

Lyrics include: So I found a little gas in a small red can| Last strike match flying out of my hand. Liar, liar, truck on fire Flames rolling off of your Goodyear tires. Burn, burn, you’re gonna learn. Never should’ve put your lips on her.

“No one wants to be cheated on, but everyone wants to seek revenge,” Pearce said of “truck on fire.” “I wrote this song for every girl who has gone through a similar situation and dreams of wreaking havoc on her ex.”

“truck on fire” is from Pearce’s new album hummingbird, which is available now. She recently spent 45 dates on the road with Tim McGraw and watched fans connect with “truck on fire” every night.
“I have been playing live, and it seems to resonate with the girls,” she said.  “You know the phrase, ‘Liar, liar, pants on fire, right?’”

Pearce wrote the song with Justin Ebach and Lady A’s Charles Kelley. “truck on fire” is officially impacting country radio on July 29.

While country music is no stranger to truck songs – nor is the idea of a female taking her frustration out on a man’s truck a foreign idea, this might be the first time the singer sets his truck on fire.

“It’s hard to put your heart on your sleeve,” she said. “It’s hard to write songs that don’t sound like anyone else. I just felt really confident in my place and my perspective. I’ve felt like songwriting, as I’ve continued to do it … I will say whatever feels true to me and not try to sugarcoat it.”

Carly Pearce co-wrote 13 of the 14 songs on her new album

Pearce co-wrote 13 of the 14 songs on her new album. The singer feels like she has fine-tuned her artistic voice and perspective to the point that it’s complicated for her to find outside songs that still feel authentic to her storyline. However, when Big Machine Label Group’s Allison Jones sent her “things I don’t chase,” written by Robyn Dell’Unto, Kat Higgins and Ava Supplesa, it took her breath away.

Lyrics include:

I’m gonna sit here, sip my Makers straight| Watch out the window while he rides away. I know if he wanted to, he would’ve stayed. Cowboys and whiskey are two things I don’t chase.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, I need it right now,’” Pearce said. “It hit me in a moment that I needed it, and I was just like, ‘I want every young girl to learn what I’ve learned in my 30s or in my late 20s, to learn those things earlier.  I see these little girls, and I’m like, ‘Don’t you ever chase a man if he wants to leave.’ So that’s really where it came from.”

Pearce said she’s felt “really confident” in her songwriting perspective and that she wants listeners to feel “every kind of emotion” on hummingbird.

“I feel like more than ever, I will say whatever feels true to me and not try to sugarcoat it at all,” she said.
