Madonna recently launched her Celebration Tour. The trek covers the breadths of the icon’s career, featuring many of her greatest hits. In between nods to her own career, Madonna made time to reference another music great, Gloria Gaynor.

With an acoustic guitar in tow, Madonna covered Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” at the O2 Arena in London, England. Being the timeless hit that it is, the crowd instantly got on board with “I Will Survive,” singing the words back to Madonna.

Gaynor took to Twitter soon after to commend Madonna for her version of the 1978 hit.
“@Madonna congratulations on the launch of #TheCelebrationTour,” Gaynor wrote alongside a clip of the cover. “So happy that you are in good health and ready to have a holiday with fans around the world! By the way, you have excellent taste in music.”
Along with her praise, Gaynor referenced Madonna’s recent health scare that caused the Celebration Tour to be postponed. The singer spent several days in the ICU due to a bacterial infection.
“I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour,” Madonna explained at the time. “I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.
“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can,” she added.
Despite the setback, Madonna kicked off the Celebration Tour this month and will continue to run through the highlights of her catalog well into next year. On top of celebrating her music, Madonna hopes to herald her wardrobe, videos, and statements throughout the trek.
The North American tour dates will kick off in December. Find her full tour dates, HERE.
