Billy Strings surprised concertgoers by taking the stage during rock band Tool‘s headlining performance in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night (October 11). The bluegrass maestro lent his guitar-playing talents to Tool’s lengthy metal jam “Jambi.”

The song is a stark departure from the traditional bluegrass sound at the heart of most of Billy Strings’ releases. Still, the multi-talented 31-year-old gave it his all during the over seven-minute-long track from Tool’s 2006 album, 10,000 Days.
Strings posted a clip of his on-stage appearance to Instagram on Thursday afternoon (October 12) and shared praise for the long-running rock group.
“Holy s—… wow. Thank you @toolmusic for having me up on a tune last night,” wrote Strings. “It was such an incredible honor to pluck a few notes with you legends!!!! I’m never coming down from this one🤘”
Tool is currently in the midst of their 2023 headlining tour, which will continue across the U.S. through November. After a brief break for the holidays, the band will reunite for a new stretch of arena shows this January. The award-winning rock group is rumored to be working on a fresh batch of music for the new year, which would make their first full-length LP since Fear Inoculum was released in 2019.
Tomorrow (October 13), Strings will resume his own fall headlining tour with the first of two performances in Independence, Missouri. He’ll continue to Grand Rapids, Michigan, before heading overseas for a stint of international shows through mid-November. December will ring in a new set of U.S. tour dates, which wrap up with a New Year’s Eve performance in New Orleans on December 31.
