SZA Sets New Record on Billboard R&B Chart

Over nine months after its initial release, SZA‘s blockbuster sophomore album SOS continues to achieve new milestones on the charts. On Thursday (September 28), Billboard announced that the LP had spent its 41st straight week at No. 1 on its Top R&B Albums chart, a new record.

Selling a whopping 53,000 units in the week of September 21, SOS was able to surpass the previous record for the R&B chart held by The Weeknd’s beloved quarantine album After Hours, which helped him earn the headlining spot at the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

This news also came just a few days after “Snooze,” SOS‘s eighth song, reached a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 3. This boost was likely caused by the September 15 release of the “Snooze” acoustic remix, which included new vocals provided by pop superstar Justin Bieber, who also appeared in the recent “Snooze” music video.

On top of all of this, SZA also found herself at No. 1 on the Hot 100 as a featured artist, courtesy of Drake’s September 15 release “Slime You Out.” The lead single for Drake’s upcoming album For All The Dogs, set to arrive next Friday (October 6), “Slime You Out” was the first-ever collaboration between him and SZA, and was also accompanied by a bit of drama involving Halle Berry.

Regardless, SZA’s hot streak looks to be just the beginning of another eventful run for the decorated star. Earlier this month, while giving an impromptu performance in Brooklyn, SZA announced that she would be releasing the deluxe version of SOS in the near future. Titled Lana, the deluxe has yet to be given a release date, though it seems like SZA has figured out a rough framework for the project.

“So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana,” she told the attendees in New York. “It’s seven to 10 songs, and it’ll be out this fall.”
