The black-and-white cinematic video is destined to tug at heartstrings, as she returns to her hometown of Waldron, Arkansas. McBryde delivers the enlightening introduction from inside her childhood bedroom, with teddy bears lining the windowsill and heart-shaped hangers bolted to the walls.

As McBryde sings the guitar-soaked melody, old home movies are displayed on a projector screen. The music video also captures a mother-daughter relationship meant to represent McBryde and her go-to person, Martha.

“The brand-new official music for ‘Light On In The Kitchen’ is out now!” wrote the songstress on Instagram. “Hope y’all love how this one turned out as much as we do.”

“Light On In the Kitchen” is inspired by the advice she received from her mother, Martha, as a child. In the McBryde household, the kitchen was considered a safe space for late-night heart-to-hearts and where the singer was instilled with wisdom. Her powerful vocals are backed by light percussion and gentle touches of the mandolin.

Honey, trust yourself | You better love yourself | ‘Cause ’til you do, you ain’t no good | For anybody else | And, honey, boys are dumb, sings McBryde. But you gonna find your one | Love him hard and bless your heart | You’ll need someone to listen | That’s why I leave a light on in the kitchen

McBryde penned the reflective ballad alongside Connie Harrington and Jessi Alexander. The track serves as the first taste of McBryde’s fourth studio album, The Devil I Know.

“While writing this, we were all able to look back and remember the women in our lives who comforted us, gave us advice and made sure we knew we had a place to go,” McBryde told Rolling Stone. “Writing this song showed me how necessary that simple comfort had been.”

McBryde’s collection is expected to arrive on September 8. She has already released the title track and “Learned To Lie.” The collection will follow her critically acclaimed project, Lindeville. Watch the full music video below.
