Will The Weeknd Make a Surprise Appearance at Coachella?

Coachella is just a day away. The headliners for the annual California festival are as big as they get, with both weekends seeing Bad Bunny take the stage Friday, BLACKPINK Saturday, and Frank Ocean Sunday. However, it seems like there could be a late addition to the already-sensational lineup.

On Monday (April 10), The Weeknd subtly tweeted out a cactus emoji and a question mark. Fans assumed he was alluding to a trip to the desert of Indio, California, where Coachella is held. Two days later (April 12), the Canadian superstar retweeted a post that said he was going to perform at the fest. So, while the words have not necessarily come out of his mouth, it’s becoming clear that The Weeknd is gearing up for an impromptu Coachella set.

This development comes in the same week as other big news for The Weeknd. Along with teasing new music and confirming the soundtrack for his upcoming HBO series The Idol, Thursday saw the Cannes Film Festival in France announce that The Idol will premiere at their Summer 2023 showcase.

Official word about his performance has not come from the Coachella team yet, so it’s not clear what day or time The Weeknd’s set will take place. But, his appearance in Indio is just another massive storyline heading into the always-explosive festival.

Earlier this week, a fan overheard a rehearsal set from Frank Ocean, where the beloved singer appeared to preview new music. Possibly using his upcoming performance to jumpstart a rollout for a new album, Ocean’s set at Coachella could truly be a moment in music history.

Combining Ocean and The Weeknd’s star power and fanfare is a match made in pop/R&B heaven for attendees, as Coachella could be in for their most celebrated festival to date. While tickets for the weekend are a hot commodity at this point, there will certainly be many viewers tuned into the livestream as well.
