Florida Georgia Line‘s debut single “Cruise” has only been out since April 10, but it’s likely already attached itself into the heads of everyone who’s listened to it, for better or worse. With a springy, wiry guitar melody and percussion that sounds like trash can lids taking a beating comes the sticky chorus, “Baby you a song/You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise” sung with a twang too thick to see through.
The duo, which consists of Georgia-born Tyler Hubbard and Florida-born Brian Kelley, are commendably the songwriters behind this radio-friendly single, as well as all the tracks on their forthcoming EP (they also penned Jason Aldean’s “Black Tears”). That’s more than a lot of radio sensations belting steely country rock hits can say. Just one question: “She hopped right up into the cab of my truck and said/Fire it up/Let’s go get this thing stuck” – is that the same thing as “going parking?”
