The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams To Feature Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Jack White

After his death in 1953, legendary country artist Hank Williams left behind a heap of riches in the form of a leather briefcase. Inside were notebooks filled with unfinished and unheard lyrics and song ideas.

Some of the most talented musicians performing today took Williams’ unfinished business and turned it into the 12 tracks of The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams, due out Oct. 4. The project originally belonged to Bob Dylan before twelve additional artists, including Jakob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Sheryl Crow and Jack White, jumped on board.

The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams will be released on Dylan’s Egyptian Records, and the liner notes will contain the full story of Williams’ notebooks, as told by Michael McCall, a writer and editor at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

“The history of Hank’s notebooks is as complex as the legend himself,”  the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Michael McCall writes in his liner notes. “Yet, in the end, what matters most are the songs, and these new works rise from the ether with ghostly relevance. As with his many standards, these new recordings tap straight into the soul of man. This is songwriting at its most artful and most powerful.”
