One of our favorite rock writers, Steven Hyden of the AV Club, tackles The Eagles’ Greatest Hits in his ongoing “We’re No. 1” series. Hyden rightfully points out that many self-professed Eagles haters — and there are many — are merely quoting one of the greatest movies of all time, The Big Lebowski, when they profess a disdain for Henley and company (quoth the Dude: “I hate the f–cking Eagles”).

There’s also the matter of their success, high ticket prices, and self-professed farewell tour, which failed to make the band go away, after promising to do so.

But if you love rock music, wouldn’t you, by proxy, appreciate the band that gave us “Hotel California,” “Take It Easy,” and so many other high-quality classic rock staples?
