Good news for couch potatoes, and people who can’t afford concert tickets and the cost of gas or a flight. YouTube has announced that they will stream performances from this year’s Lollapalooza (August 5-7) and Austin City Limits Festivals (September 16-18). The channel plans to offer live music coverage, as well as a bonus feed of backstage areas and interviews.
The 20th Lollapalooza will feature headliners Emimem, Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Muse. The Austin City Limits Music Festival, which turns 10 this year, boasts a lineup that includes Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Stevie Wonder, My Morning Jacket, Gillian Welch, Fleet Foxes and Kanye West.
“For those of us who can’t make it — we have YouTube,” said Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell in a statement. “Be a voyeur to this year’s Lollapalooza. Watch as musicians offer their souls and the crowd devours them. You just may forget that you aren’t really there.”
You can also stream the Newport Folk Festival on NPR Music next weekend.
