Wanda Jackson premiered the music video for her cover of Bob Dylan’s “Thunder on the Mountain” today. The track appears on Jackson’s upcoming album The Party Ain’t Over, produced by Jack White.
“Jack wanted me to do a Bob song,” the rockabilly/country legend told Spinner. “They’re longstanding friends and Bob suggested ‘Thunder on the Mountain.’” Jackson’s version of the song substitutes “Jerry Lee” for “Alicia Keys” in the lyrics.”
The video includes the Third Man House Band, featuring White himself on guitar. (They will be supporting Jackson on several dates of her upcoming tour.) White’s penchant for color coordination appears in the form of the band decked out in pink and black outfits, with a matching microphone for Jackson. Filmed at a Nashville record plant, the 73-year-old Jackson holds her own in the energetic performance.
Listeners who have pre-ordered The Party Ain’t Over will receive a “greeting card gatefold” edition of the LP, which, Hallmark-style, plays music samples when opened.
The Party Ain’t Over is out January 25 on Third Man Records and is currently available streaming on NPR. Read our recent feature on Wanda Jackson here.
