Zac Brown Band Top The Billboard Charts, Poke Fun At Maroon 5

Videos by American Songwriter

Country-rock upstarts Zac Brown Band had their biggest chart debut ever yesterday, when their new album, You Get What You Give, took the #1 spot, dethroning rap-metal act Linkin Park, who topped the charts last week with A Thousand Suns.

The new ZBB album, which sold 153,042 copies its first week, also bowed at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

You Get What You Give’s lead single, “As She’s Walking Away,’” featuring Alan Jackson, is currently at  #11 on the Country Songs chart. The band’s previous album, The Foundation, peaked at #9 and spawned five no. 1 hit singles.

The band took to Twitter to announce the good news:

“Well, I guess we did it. #1 this week. A big sloppy “Thank You” to those who bought the album.”

The previous week, they took a friendly swipe at Maroon 5, whose new LP, Hands All Over, had to settle for #2:

“In the time it takes Maroon 5 to fix their hair you could’ve listened to our new CD, “You Get What You Give,” in stores now.”

Adam Levine, the band’s lead singer, shot back: “So…Maroon5… Hands All Over…number 2 on the charts…but number one in your hearts…congrats to the Dave Matthews Band on number one!”
