Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Gary Burr (Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Tanya Tucker, Ringo Starr, Juice Newton)

Burr’s a fun-loving, down-to-earth guy who’s serious about helping songwriters.

“Writing a song is like building a house. At first it seems daunting and you are not sure how ANYONE does it. Then you learn the basics and get the right tools. Now you can build a nice basic house (song). Once you get comfortable with that you can try building a house with a front porch. You keep building them with front porches until you have that DOWN. Now you can try building a house with a pool and a tennis court. Like those houses, your songs get better and more accomplished once you have the tools and keep going!!”

Burr has written songs for Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Ringo Starr, Juice Newton and more, and started out the same way as many aspiring songwriters do- playing guitar in a band and marveling at the audience reaction to his original songs.

“Songwriting was a mystery to me. It was magic. Once I started trying to write, I was just winging it. Making it up as I made it up. Eventually I began writing with songwriters who were better than me and could teach me the techniques, tips and tricks it takes to write great songs.

Now I want to help other writers know the secrets behind the magic. Let’s jump over the “winging it” part and get down to the business of writing great songs.”
