Although they’ve been around since 2004, Chicago electronic duo Walter Meego is just now getting around to releasing their first full-length release, and the years spent honing their craft is obvious in Voyager. That said, they might have followed the formula for making massive pop hits a bit too closely, as their perfectly coifed synth-pop ditties offer unshakable hooks but few memorable surprises. Built around dance beats, squealing synthesizers, and keyboardist Justin Sconza’s vulnerable croon, their tracks certainly don’t lack in the area of accessibility-with track after track overstuffed with immediately engaging keyboard riffs and melodic countermelodies. But unlike Of Montreal or Hot Chip, two bands that play with similar sonic motifs, there are so few unexpected quirks. More Justin Timberlake than Air, the writing never rises above easy rhymes and lovesick platitudes. Ultimately, though, this isn’t the kind of album you listen to for lyrical revelations, and
