LUKE DOUCET > Blood’s Too Rich

Musical outlaw. Hogtown hipster. Cowboy crooner. Restless wanderer. That’s Canadian songwriter Luke Doucet in 10 words or less. Blood’s Too Rich is an extended ode to Doucet’s prized White Falcon Gretsch. He even names his band (the core of which is wife Melissa McLelland on guitar/vocals and bassist Rich Levesque) after this revered instrument.Label: SIX SHOOTER

Musical outlaw. Hogtown hipster. Cowboy crooner. Restless wanderer. That’s Canadian songwriter Luke Doucet in 10 words or less. Blood’s Too Rich is an extended ode to Doucet’s prized White Falcon Gretsch. He even names his band (the core of which is wife Melissa McLelland on guitar/vocals and bassist Rich Levesque) after this revered instrument. This love-in for one man’s guitar is evident throughout the disc’s dozen songs, especially the soaring solo that ends the seven-minute opus “Cleveland.” Doucet’s seventh record finds the guitar-slinger putting a new spin on tried and true tales of life on the road: from hotel rooms in Ohio, (“Cleveland”) to barstool conversations and friendships struck in Woodstock, N.Y. (“The Day Rick Danko Died”), to kinship with truck drivers (“Long Haul Driver”).
