Blood’s Too Rich is an extended ode to Doucet’s prized White Falcon Gretsch. He even names his band (the core of which is wife Melissa McLelland on guitar/vocals and bassist Rich Levesque) after this revered instrument. This love-in for one man’s guitar is evident throughout the disc’s dozen songs, especially the soaring solo that ends the seven-minute opus “Cleveland.” Doucet’s seventh record finds the guitar-slinger putting a new spin on tried and true tales of life on the road: from hotel rooms in Ohio, (“Cleveland”) to barstool conversations and friendships struck in Woodstock, N.Y. (“The Day Rick Danko Died”), to kinship with truck drivers (“Long Haul Driver”).
