Julian Casablancas debuted his solo work in Tokyo over the weekend.
Julian Casablancas plaid his first gig as a solo artist promoting his upcoming album, Phrazes For The Young, over the weekend. The location? Tokyo, Japan, where he was the musical guest at a special afterparty for the clothing company Opening Ceremony. There, the Strokes frontman unvieled new tunes and apparently managed to avoid playing anything from the Strokes songbook. Check out a few videos here.
The Oscar Wilde-inspired Phrazes For The Young, due September 29, is said to blend new wave and classical influences. It features production work from Mike Mogis of the Monsters of Folk and Jason Lander. Known song titles include “River Of Brake Lights,” “Glass,” and “Ludlow St.”
Casablancas is also working with the Strokes on the band’s 4th album.
