With Velvet Revolver all but dissolved, and a reconciliation with Guns n’ Roses’ singer Axl Rose a highly unlikely occurrence, Slash has been busy prepping his debut solo album (his Slash’s Snakepit albums notwithstanding). The once-ubiquitous guitar player has a secret weapon for Slash and Friends — the songwriting talents of Wolfmother singer and fellow hairy guy Andrew Stockdale.
The Australian artist, who’s band wowed critics with their hook-filled, high octane rock debut album, 2005’s Wolfmother, tells Artisan news: “It was really, really like an incredible experience to write with Slash. He’s a cool guy. He moves really fast too. His creative process had me on my toes. He’s very alert with what he’s looking for and how a song needs to move.” Stockdale also explained how the collaboration came to be, saying “His manager sent an e-mail through and asked if I’d be interested and I was honored. Honored to play with Slash. So when we got to L.A. to make the Wolfmother record, after the session of doing Wolfmother songs Slash dropped in one night and we just sat there with an acoustic and went through the song.”
Slash’s album will feature guest appearances by a who’s who of rockers, including Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Barker, Flea, Ronnie Wood, and fellow former Guns member Izzy Stradlin.
The new Wolfmother album, Cosmic Egg, is due out October 13.
