British rock staples Oasis have just announced a deal with Sony BMG that will mean at least three more albums and a new marketing and distribution plan. The move is a step in the opposite direction from many current bands that are distancing themselves from major labels.

Oasis and their management, however, sees the partnership as a way “to take advantage of all the opportunities presented by the new business models available today as well as remaining totally in control of their own destiny.”
The deal will allow Oasis’ Big Brother Recordings to retain control over the distribution of new albums as well as the band’s extensive previous catalog. Sony BMG will act as a type of parent company for Big Brother, sharing in the profits of both newly and previously released Oasis albums.

So what’s the story (morning glory? Too easy…) for Oasis fans in coming months? The first of the three albums indicated by the deal is slated to be released by the end of 2008. The band is also set to tour North America beginning August 26, wrapping up in Mexico mid-November. This is all assuming, of course, that Liam and Noel Gallagher don’t kill each other in the midst of all this business, but hey, they’ve made it this far…
