A clip from the upcoming episode features Carll strumming on his acoustic guitar, singing his introspective, plainspoken single “The Love That We Need,” which offers a raw, honest portrayal of his first marriage.

Carll has made a name for himself due to his straight-forward lyrics, often earning comparisons to other Texas songwriters like Townes Van Zandt.

Following the success of his 2011 album KMAG YOYO & Other American Stories, which landed him the award for Best Album of 2011 by the Americana Music Association, Carll, alongside producer Joe Henry, released Lovers and Leavers in 2016. In that same year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

Throughout the years, Carll has managed to pick up quite a devoted fanbase, including Lee Ann Womack, who covered his song “Chances Are,” which earned Carll his first Grammy nomination.

Lovers and Leavers has been noted as Carll’s most mature work thus far, produced after leaving Lost Highway Records and divorcing his wife.

You can see a sneak-peek of Carll’s upcoming performance below.
