He’d be spaceman, I would play the spy.
Should have been so simple, easy then:
Old red bike, one good friend.
Lying on the dock watching stars, swore someday we’d move to Mars.
Two little boys just trying to play their cards
Shouldn’t have to know about how life can be so hard.
Billy got lost long before he moved away,
Didn’t sleep at night, needed medicine to play.
His daddy was a hard man — who’s to blame?
A man does what he’s taught and then he passes on the pain.
I never saw Billy cry, never thought to ask him why.
His mama turned her head, loading up the car,
Billy looked away … and then I saw the scars.
And I watched my world beginning to unwind
Fell onto a road that wasn’t mine.
Out of sight and off the line.
I caught up with Billy, twelve steps before he died,
Nobody ‘round to love him, his bottle running dry.
He was still the spaceman, and I was still the spy,
Billy flew so far from life, while I watched it all go by.
Sometimes I look up at the stars, swear I see Billy up on Mars.
Old red bike and my best friend
It might be over, Billy, but it never ends …
Billy walked the world on too fine of a line
Found this place unkind …
Out of sight before his time.
Thinking back on days one night watching stars …
Heard a voice … somewhere far. ..
Billy said that hurt could shine …
…A jewel … polished over time.
Let it all go, my friend … but hold on to your fire ’til the end …
Old red bike and one good friend,
Hold on to what matters and you’ll find your way again.
And I walked the world down a road that wasn’t mine.
And I walked as though I had time.
Out of sight and off the line.
And now there’s just this space that I’m trying to make mine
And I’m gonna walk as though I still have time.
Gonna be alright, gonna be just fine.
Out of sight and off the line.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”2nd Place | “Telling Time“ by Jill Fordyce”][vc_column_text]Couldn’t wait to leave home
Couldn’t wait to be free
Wanted time to speed up
So much to see
Beaches and deserts and city lights
Country roads and star-filled nights
Then I met you
And the days sped by
Wanted time to slow down
For just you and I
Making plans and holding hands
Wedding bands and a piece of land
So many things that I would tell time
If I could tell time
Slow down, speed up
Go away, rewind
If I could tell time
Our two daughters were born
And then our two sons
We took our time
Wondered what they’d become
Homework and baths and bedtime stories
Dances, first loves, baseball field glory
So many things that I would tell time
If I could tell time
Slow down, speed up
Go away, rewind
If I could tell time
We sit together alone again
Rise at dawn, water the lawn
I hold your hand, so old and soft
And I stop –
Trying to tell time
There were so many things I wanted to tell time
If I could’ve told time
Slow down, speed up
Go away, rewind
But I stopped telling time[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”3rd Place | “Mountain Time“ by Keeley Valentino”][vc_column_text]I wake up at 4 a.m.
No use in trying to sleep in
No matter where I am
My clock is set to you
Far away in the Rocky State
I see your hands on the wheel and the sun on your face
Oh how I wish that I could trade places
With that empty seat next to you
My memory
Such a spineless thing
When you can’t go back
But you can’t move on
All my melancholy wonder, all my sleepy daydreams
Don’t stand a chance against the fact that I’m still gone
Holding out for you to change your mind
Until then I guess I’ll be on mountain time
If I called you up
Would you let it ring?
If I heard your voice
Would I feel that sting?
I spend so much time
Just imagining
You coming after me
Oh my memory
Such a spineless thing
When you can’t go back but you can’t move on
All my melancholy wonder, all my sleepy daydreams
Don’t stand a chance against the fact
that I’m still gone
Holding out for you to change your mind
Until then I guess I’ll be on mountain time
Come on baby, it’s just the great divide
We’d be so much better on the same side
Oh my memory
Such a spineless thing
When you can’t go back but you can’t move on
All my melancholy wonder, all my sleepy daydreams
Don’t stand a chance against the fact
that I’m still gone
Holding out for you to change your mind
Until then I guess I’ll be on mountain time[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”4th Place | “Interstate Of Mind“ by Phil Tittle”][vc_column_text]I’m heading up I-35
my exit’s on the right
but he highway’s calling out my name
There’s not a cloud in sight
I think I’ll go and see what I can find
on this interstate of mind
I’m gonna drop that top
for my destination anywhere
I wanna wear the sunshine
while Mother Nature combs my hair
I just need to feel that road unwind
on this interstate of mind
Chorus
I’ll keep on going ‘till I’m sure I can’t be found
I’ll know I’ve arrived when there’s no one else around
I just need a day or two to leave it all behind
and just erase the cluttered space
on my interstate of mind
I don’t need to take a map
My journey has no end
the only place I need to be
lies up a around the bend
I won’t stop ‘till the road and sky combine
on this interstate of mind
Bridge
The humming of the road and the voice inside my head
join in two-part harmony as the horizon puts the sun to bed
I might go all night if I’m so inclined
on this interstate of mind
