The artist: Jonas Friddle & The Majority, a North Carolina ensembles that melds heartland rock and roll with the old-time stylings of the Piedmont

The song: “The Difference,” which appears on the band’s self-titled album, out April 22

Fun fact: Friddle began writing songs at age 10 when his dad bought him a Harmony guitar at a yard sale.

Songwriter says: “Musically and lyrically, the song tries to connect with a listener’s own sense of push and pull in life. Choices we make with our head versus choices we make with our heart. Towards the end of the song you can hear the banjo driving at full speed, the drums drop into a back beat and the words ‘dropping anchors while picking up speed.’”
