Coldplay have revealed the details of their seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, and released the first single from the project.
The album was recorded in London and Malibu, California with Norwegian production duo Stargate and Rik Simpson, who produced the band’s previous three efforts. A Head Full of Dreams will also feature more collaborators than any previous Coldplay album, with Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton all making appearances. It will be released on Dec. 4 with pre-orders now open.
The album marks a departure from the minimalist tendencies of last year’s Ghost Stories and a return to the expansive, bright sounds that were present on 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, with Stargate’s pop-production background with artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna shining thorough on the single “Adventure of a Lifetime.”
It is also rumored to be the band’s final project for the foreseeable future, with frontman Chris Martin telling BBC’s Zane Lowe in an interview last year that the album felt like “the final thing” for the band.
While the group only played a handful of dates in promotion of Ghost Stories, the album’s release statement suggests the group will tour behind the project, saying they “plan to take it around the world.”
