ARTIST: Rebecca Juliet

SONG: “Damsel in Distress”

BIRTHDATE: June 10, 1998

HOMETOWN: New York City

CURRENT LOCATION: New York City

AMBITIONS: My motto for 2015 has been “contentment but not complacency.” I’d love to reach that state.

TURN-OFFS: Inequality.

TURN-ONS: Bubble baths, tea, fruit, sunshine, more tea

DREAM GIG: Singing “Let it Be” with Sir Paul McCartney

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door/Who is it for?” (Lennon/McCartney, “Eleanor Rigby”)

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: My best friend (who actually was one of the dancers in my video) is definitely one of the craziest people I know. Although she’s a dancer and performer, one time, she ate an entire rack of ribs and a quarter of a chicken, and still asked me if I had any desert in my house! She’ll also stop any conversation if she sees a puppy or something sparkly.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “American Pie” by Don McClain

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Angelina Grimke, Henry David Thoreau, Abraham Lincoln, Laura Benanti, Lady Gaga

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I saw Bastille at Gov. Ball this summer, and it was absolutely amazing. There was this huge, really energetic crowd (that was true of the whole festival) and the band’s performance was out of this world.

I WROTE THIS SONG: I wrote “Damsel in Distress” to create a fun, entertaining, and empowering “girl-power” anthem. I wanted to make something catchy and cute that still brought home the really crucial point of women’s equality.
