Since 2009, the Sedona, AZ based songwriter has written, produced and released a trove of mesmerizing music; an expansive palette of folk, gospel, rock and psychedelia recorded under the nom de plume decker. His new album, Patsy, will be released on February 17th, and we have the pleasure of introducing many of you to the album’s title track.
You can pre-oder the album HERE.
ARTIST: decker.
SONG: “Patsy”
BIRTHDATE: 5/11/1980
HOMETOWN: Denver, CO
CURRENT LOCATION: Sedona, AZ
AMBITIONS: Become better and enjoy the process
TURN-OFFS: Smug, mean, inauthentic
TURN-ONS: Integrity, Intelligence, Inspiration, Spunk
DREAM GIG: Open for Leonard Cohen
FAVORITE LYRIC: “I just thought I’d tell ya – all the demons have been slayed.” Cotton Jones. Maybe there’s others. That’s a tough question. I’m a lyric guy.
CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: I mean, I’ve known some crazy people, far beyond anecdotal. In a rehabilitation facility when I was 22 there was a gentleman (lets call him Tony), and among many things he held conversations with himself and quite literally swatted away things around his ears which were not there. And it got worse from there.
SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Under Pressure” Queen/David Bowie
5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Assuming we mean alive…PJ Harvey, Daniel Day Lewis, PT Anderson, Leonard Cohen, Mick Jagger. Although I really enjoy meals with my son.
MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: I’ve got to be honest – it was Primus on their Tales for Punchbowl tour when I was about 15. I had this hallucinogenic, other-worldly musical experience probably much like the deadheads speak of. Violent Femmes also blew my mind once.
I WROTE THIS SONG: On a tired Sunday night after reading about Lee Harvey Oswald for 3 or 4 hours.
