Micah has travelled the country sharing his life with the people who will listen. It is easy to get absorbed in his music, placing yourself in the life he so aptly describes.

ARTIST: Micah

SONG: Just a Little Heartbreak

BIRTHDATE: February 3rd, 1988

HOMETOWN: Rochester, NY

CURRENT LOCATION: Rochester, NY

AMBITIONS: Touring consistently and growing my fan base. Becoming an accomplished songwriter and working with other writers from any genre. Eventually I’d love to get into a more music business-minded job (I went to school for Music Business at Northeastern University) whether it be music supervision, management, booking, etc.

TURN-OFFS: I dislike working with people who think they’re above you or talk down to you.

TURN-ONS: Anyone with a great sense of humor. People that are genuine and grateful.

DREAM GIG: It’d be great to get to a point where I could sell out mid-sized clubs on a national level, and at the same time getting my music placed in film/tv on a consistent basis. If we’re saying the sky is the limit with this, I’d say playing on stage with Stevie Wonder would be an absolute dream.

FAVORITE LYRIC: “By the time I recognize this moment, this moment will be gone. But I will bend the light pretending, that it somehow lingered on” – John Mayer ‘Clarity’

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: I wouldn’t say they’re crazy, but my two close buddies Sean and Drew always have hilarious stories to tell when I catch up with them.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ – Bonnie Raitt (written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin). Hands down one of the best ever if not the best ever love/unrequited love song. The lyrics are simple but hit you in the gut, and the way Bonnie Raitt delivers every note, every word, it is truly just one of those special songs that only a small handful of singers could pull off.

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: President Barack Obama, Stevie Wonder, Malcolm Gladwell, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: It’s hard to peg this down to one so I’d say I have two that stand out to me: seeing James Brown at the Rochester Jazz Festival a few years back. It was maybe less than a year before he passed away. He was 72 at the time of the show and still moved like he was in his 20s. The entire show was entertaining and it was incredible to see such a legend play. The other show would be The Lone Bellow. I saw them a year ago at the Lilac Festival in Rochester as well. Their passion, their harmonies and those songs. I loved their music before, but seeing them live took it to a whole other level.

I WROTE THIS SONG: This song came a bit out of necessity. I was about a month out from driving down to Nashville to record my album and I felt like I needed one more song to round out the album and summarize everything nicely. I only had the phrase ‘Just a Little Heartbreak’ to start with, which initially was only going to be the title of the album. I sat down one night to see if I could come up with any interesting ideas for a song and little did I know that the music and lyrics would come pouring out of me. In a matter of hours I ended up finishing the song and finalizing all of the tracks for the album before I headed to Nashville. It’s funny how writing can go like that from time to time.
