Randy Weeks’ biggest claim to fame is composing Lucinda Williams’ hit “Can’t Let Go.” On Going My Way, he drops a slew of charmers with more hit potential, aided by producer Will Sexton and a crew of Austin’s finest players. From a solid pop foundation, Weeks steps easily down the lane toward rockabilly (“Little Bit of Sleep”), Stones-y blues (“Hard to Believe”) and some other avenues, including funky country.
Tempos, melodies and hooks, he’s got. Now he just needs more artists like Williams covering his songs, because his Lou Reed-meets-Stan Ridgway voice might be just a little too quirky to earn them the attention they deserve.
