Songwriter Says: “This idea came to me after watching the Muscle Shoals documentary. It was such an inspiring time in music for me and I felt a connection to the term “river people” they referenced throughout the movie. Growing up in Memphis, we had the Mississippi River to shape and design the characteristics of our town and its people. So, it’s a love song of longing and perhaps sadness, inspired by this river girl. I took it to Kevin Welch, who helped me to finish it and give it its legs. He also played the Tele on this one. In a sense, each member of the band were like these “river people,” bringing their own style and story to the track. It’s my favorite on the album. It feels like home to me when I sing it.”
