The Artist: Nashville synth-pop quartet Scale Model

The Song: “Live It Up” off their newly released debut album Star

Songwriter says: “Live It Up” is just a fun upbeat number that was inspired by both ’80s and modern day pop music. The song is basically about letting go of pretentiousness and just having pure, care-free FUN, and not taking yourself too seriously. We’re all East Nashville residents, and in the song we make a few light-hearted jokes about some of the uber-hipsters we’ve observed at local watering holes, etc … all the while being fully aware that we’re sometimes guilty of those same things. While we’re serious about making great music, we always try not to take ourselves too seriously.

Fun fact: Our guitarist Dave Johnson is a talented luthier. He built the custom LED-illuminated lucite guitars we play on stage, and he’s also done custom builds for JEFF the Brotherhood, Turbo Fruits, Thelma & the Sleaze, Pelican, and many others. You can check him out at scalemodelguitars.com.
