The fields of my heart
Have grown old & dry
Just thistles & thorns
And they’ve choked out all the life
The seeds that’ve been sown
Have all withered & died
This soil’s far too shallow
For any roots to survive
I miss the sun
I miss the rain
I miss the beauty that’s faded away
I miss who I was
When I was young
And I’d still dream about who I’d become

But with dirt on my knees & sores on my hands
I’ll work this old ground the best that I can
Many years have passed by
When I last took any care
Gravel fills this soil now
And weeds have grown up everywhere
But I want to do what it takes
I want to roll up my sleeves
I want to dig up what’s left & start over
And yeah, I want to bleed
‘Cause I miss the sun
I miss the rain
I miss the beauty that’s faded away
I miss who I was
When I was young
And I’d still dream, oh, I’d still dream

I miss the sun
I miss the rain
I miss the beauty that’s faded away
I miss who I was
When I was young
And I’d still dream about who I’d become

I miss the laughs
I miss the cries
I miss standing up for what’s right
I miss the freedom to mess up
And remember that I’m already loved
So with dirt on my knees & sores on my hands
I’ll work this old ground the best that I can
