On his 11th album, Fevers (out November 5 via Plowboy Records), veteran honky-tonker Paul Burch dishes up classic country with a modern bite. Part of the credit goes to producer Fats Kaplin, a multi-instrumentalist (and former Jack White tourmate) who knows how to bridge the gap between old and new. Paul Burch is still the captain of this ship, though, and he steers it into interesting waters om “Couldn’t Get a Witness,” a twangy rave-up whose video features cameos from Kaplin and Nashville-based keyboard wiz Jen Gunderman.

“‘Couldn’t Get A Witness’ is the answer to the eternal question shouted into the night: Can I get witness?” Burch explains. “Fats Kaplin plays the fiddle and he scorches the bow. Can I get a witness? The answer might be no. The song is a riddle of where, why, or who. ‘Better keep your eyes peeled, cause the witness might be you.’”
