Fake out.
While everyone was expecting a Spinal Tap reunion, what we’ll actually get is perhaps even more interesting – for the first time, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer will embark on a musical tour, not as the Tap, but as themselves.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the immortal rock flick This Is Spinal Tap, the three old friends will play “Unwigged and Unplugged.” The trio are promising stripped down shows, “no smoke, and just one mirror backstage,” and amps that only go up to “81/2 – it worked for Fellini.” They’ll also dip into their Folksmen catalog, playing songs from 2003’s folk opus A Mighty Wind.
“We’ve never gone out as ourselves,” Shearer stated at a news conference at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. “So we’ve been holding lots of meetings trying to figure out who we are.”
Spinal Tap unplugged – will it work, or will it be a sh**t sandwich? You tell us.
