Many artists personally love the songs that were major hits for their careers. However, there are also quite a few singers out there who actually don’t like their biggest songs, or downright can’t stand to perform them. Let’s take a look at six songs that their singers either don’t like or really can’t stand to play at all.

1. “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson
Famed American Idol winner, singer, and award-winning talk show host Kelly Clarkson once ranked her 2004 hit “Breakaway” as one of her least favorite songs. In fact, in an interview with BuzzFeed Celebs in 2019 she labeled “Breakaway” and “A Moment Like This” her “least two favorites” in her catalog.
There’s no real bad blood with the track, though. Clarkson said that she simply didn’t find the song very exciting to perform.
2. “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John
Famed musician Elton John isn’t the biggest fan of his 1973 song “Crocodile Rock”.
“The last time I have to sing ‘Crocodile Rock’ I will probably throw a party,” said John of the track. “It was written as a kind of a joke, like a pastiche.”
3. “We Didn’t Start The Fire” by Billy Joel
Billy Joel has delivered quite a few hits throughout his decades-long career, and there are a few songs in his discography that he isn’t the biggest fan of. One such song is the 1989 track “We Didn’t Start The Fire”. Despite being deeply loved by fans today, Joel once said that the song has “one of the worst melodies [he] ever wrote.”
4. “The One” by Taylor Hawkins/Foo Fighters
The late great Taylor Hawkins was an incredible drummer, particularly during his time with Foo Fighters. And the legend was not the biggest fan of the band’s song “The One”, which was originally produced for the movie Orange County.
“I hate the way it sounds, the production of it; it was a total cop-out,” said Hawkins of the song.

5. “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran
Singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran made it big with a few songs, one in particular being the 2017 hit “Shape Of You”. According to Sheeran himself, he felt like the song wasn’t quite “him”. It allegedly took a while for the other writers of the hit to get him to agree to add it to his album Divide and release it as a single.
6. “Complicated” by Avril Lavigne
“Complicated” was a massive hit for Avril Lavigne in 2002. However, the singer has said that she often hates playing the song live. She regularly makes the track part of her setlist over a decade later, but she has said that she only does it for her fans.
“I don’t understand the bands that are like, ‘We are not playing that single,’” she told MTV News in 2005. “Sometimes I cannot stand playing ‘Complicated,’ but what makes it worth it is when I do play it the crowd gets really excited.”
