Quite a few country darlings have gotten far on The Voice, but these five country covers are some of the best to ever be performed on the reality competition show. Let’s take a look!
Videos by American Songwriter
1. “Over You” by Cassadee Pope
This hit from Miranda Lambert is an amazing song on its own, but Cassadee Pope’s country cover of the song was one of the best performances on The Voice. Pope didn’t do anything crazy with the cover; in fact, her voice isn’t all that different from Lambert’s. However, that’s part of why it was such a good rendition. Pope’s version had its own vulnerability that made her stand out, and the cover went on to become the top track on iTunes when it first came out.
2. “Please Remember Me” by Danielle Bradbery
Danielle Bradbery dished out a few stunning country covers on Season 4 of The Voice, but nothing topped her rendition of “Please Remember Me” by Tim McGraw. It takes a lot of patience to perform a ballad like this on a show where you’re expected to belt like no one else, but Bradbery’s control over her voice was extremely impressive. That choir behind her only made the spectacle more angelic.
3. “You Save Me” by Nicolle Galyon
She’s an experienced pianist with some real vocal chops, and Nicolle Galyon showed off the best of her best with this rendition of “You Save Me” by Kenny Chesney. It’s a soft and soothing rendition of the country classic, complete with Galyon’s unique R&B style that really made the whole thing worth it. Remember when she hit those high notes? Absolutely stunning!
4. “God Gave Me You” by Jermaine Paul
Jermaine Paul’s confidence made his cover of “God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton such a great rendition. It’s wild to think that this cover took place on a reality show, because it sounds so well-produced and professional. Paul was one of few contestants on The Voice to really connect with the show’s audience through his voice and energy.
5. “Over” by Terry McDermott
Fans of The Voice know Terry McDermott all too well; it’s still crazy that he didn’t win his season! He delivered hit after hit during his time on the show, but there’s something so special about his rendition of “Over” by Blake Shelton. McDermott stuck to classic rock hits for much of his run, but his cover of this song proved he could take on any genre of music. Blake Shelton even said that he wished he could have performed the song as well as McDermott did!
