This week at the annual winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, musical products manufacturers are showcasing the new products that will hit stores in 2011. Below we’ve selected five new pieces of gear to get excited about.
Audio-Technica AT2022 X/Y Stereo Condenser Microphone
Audio-Technica releases a stereo condenser microphone designed with field recording enthusiasts in mind. The two condenser mics pivot in either 90 or 120-degree directions, reminding us of Sony’s PCM-50 digital recorder. The AT2022 picks up on A-T’s 20 series of condensers and will be available in March. MSRP: $439.
Korg KRONOS Workstation Keyboard
Korg introduces a new workstation keyboard called KRONOS, which houses nine sound engines for piano, electric piano, tonewheel organ, as well as six different synthesizer-based engines, including the MS-20EX and PolysixEX from the Legacy Collection. The new keyboard will weigh in around $4,000 or $5,000 and have more brain power than most of its competitors in the market.
Shure SRH Headphones
Shure expands their SRH headphone line with two new products. The SRH550DJ are geared more towards personal listening while the SRH940 can be used for higher-end studio monitoring applications. The 550DJ come with 50mm dynamic drivers and an adjustable headband and will list for half the cost of the pricier 940s. SRH550DJ MSRP: $149.00, SRH940 MSRP: $349.00
Neumann KH 120 Loudspeaker
The Berlin-based Neumann, recorgnized by microphone nuts the world over for their historic U-series mics, announce their first foray into sound monitoring with the KH 120 speakers. Neumann is known for their impeccable products so you know they labored intensely over the KH 120s – and the speakers will come at a cost, listing for around $1,500 a piece.
Meyer Sound Constellation and MINA
Meyer Sound makes their first Winter NAMM appearance in 10 years and, in their stately demo room on the second floor of the convention center, host two discussions with Bob Weir about the former Grateful Dead singer and guitarist’s home studio, where he’s recently installed their impressive Constellation sound system, which aims to recreate the intimacy of a small performance venue space. Meyer also brings news of their new MINA line array loudspeaker.
