5 Great Britney Spears Songs That Remain Iconic to This Day

Britney Spears has quite a hefty discography, which is about what you’d expect for a pop star who dominated the airwaves for the better part of a decade at the turn of the millennium. Part of her appeal was how diverse she got in terms of pop musicality, and everybody has a favorite Britney song that might not be her biggest hit. That being said, we are particularly fond of these five Britney Spears tracks and would be bold enough to say that they’re some of her greatest songs. Let’s take a look, for nostalgia’s sake!

1. “Toxic”

What would a list of Britney Spears’ greatest songs be without mentioning “Toxic”? Some consider this 2003 hit to be the pop song of the century. And it’s hard to disagree. “Toxic” has all the elements of a classic Britney tune: An addictive hook, excellent production, glam-disco vibes, and Miss Spears’ iconic vocal drawl. The song has been hailed by non-pop music legends like Dave Grohl and James Blake, too.

2. “Piece Of Me”

One can’t deny that Britney Spears went through a lot during her career. Between being taken advantage of for her money and being horrifically harassed by paparazzi, she endured what most of us wouldn’t be able to handle. And by 2007, she was out for blood and vengeance. With lyrics like “I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17”, “Piece Of Me” is Spears’ fighting song with some notable electronic punk elements.

The song wasn’t exactly loved at the time and didn’t get much radio play. But it’s aged well, especially now that we know her story.

3. “Lucky”

Spears put out quite a few soft ballads in her heyday, but her best has to be “Lucky” from 2000. Few songs fit the nostalgic soundtrack of the turn of the millennium quite like this glittery, emotional track with a music video that is about as famous as the song itself.

Spears was telling us all about her own experiences and we didn’t even know it: Exploitation, dreams, sadness. It’s definitely a super-produced pop track, but the implications of it are pretty heartbreaking considering how rough Spears had it during her rollercoaster ride to fame.

4. “Everytime”

Our list of Britney Spears’ greatest songs already includes a ballad, but we just had to add another one. This 2003 track came about after Spears split from Justin Timberlake, and even the most modest Britney Spears fans know “Everytime” by heart.

It’s a feminine and emotional piece of work all about resilience when faced with heartbreak. It’s classy Britney at her very best.

5. “Stronger”

Another memorable Spears hit from 2000, “Stronger” is one of her biggest anthems and one of the most amped-up songs from Oops!… I Did It Again. And that music video is a masterclass in y2k aesthetics.
