4 of the Best Country Songs About Fall

1. “Autumn’s Not That Cold” (Lorrie Morgan)

Fall is rife with metaphors. Everything starts to wane: the sun, the leaves, and the warm weather. Because of that, it’s fodder for a song about change. In Lorrie Morgan’s “Autumn’s Not That Cold,” she faces the loss of love head on. Much to her surprise, heartache doesn’t seem to hurt that bad and autumn’s not that cold.

Beck here the leaves are turning
On me just like you
Change is full of color
And it’s anything but blue

I thought that I’d stop living
Without you here to hold
But I’m just not that lonesome
And autumn’s not that cold

2. “Chill of an Early Fall” (George Strait)

Next up on our list of country songs about fall, we have a George Strait hit. Contrastingly, Strait finds fall to be fairly chilly. In “Chill of an Early Fall,” Strait wrestles with infidelity. The weather is starting to crisp up and his heart is starting to break. While his lover finds someone new, he’s left to weather the storm.

And I’ll begin to feel the chill of an early fall.
And I’ll be drinking again and thinking whenever he calls,
There’s a storm coming on, it won’t be too long till the snow falls.
Oh I’ll be sobersome,
But when October comes and goes and no time at all
I’ll begin to feel the chill of an early fall

3. “Harvest Time” (Luke Bryan)

For many people, fall calls to mind a harvest. Luke Bryan–having grown up farming–decided to take his song about autumn in that direction. Bryan has many tracks that act as vignettes of small town life. Few are as cozy and touching as this one.

It’s harvest time in this little town
Time to bring it on in, pay the loans down
Fill our diesel tank up, make another round
There’s a big red moon comin’ up in the sky
Combine’s cuttin’ in a staggered line
The only time of year we miss the church bells chime
It’s harvest time

4. “The Boys of Fall” (Kenny Chesney)

Another familiar face of fall is the onset of football season. In “The Boys of Fall,” Kenny Chesney creates an ode to the high school football team. It’ll be nostalgic to anyone looking back on their days on the field. And what is fall for, if not slowing down and taking time to remember where you’ve been?

Well, it’s turn and face the Stars and Stripes
It’s fighting back them butterflies
It’s call it in the air, alright, yes sir, we want the ball
And it’s knocking heads and talking trash
It’s slinging mud and dirt and grass
It’s I got your number, I got your back when your back’s against the wall
You mess with one man you got us all
The boys of fall
