4 Alt-Rock One-Hit Wonders You Forgot You Loved From the 2000s

Alternative rock has enjoyed quite a few decades of success, but the 2000s tend to be on the underrated side. So much great alt-rock music came out at the turn of the millennium, and many of those songs happen to be one-hit wonders. Let’s take a look at just four alt-rock one-hit wonders from the 2000s that are still major jams today!

1. “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap

This Australian indie rock band could have made it way bigger internationally than they did. Thankfully, though, they got at least some recognition with their 2008 classic “Sweet Disposition” 

Today, The Temper Trap’s biggest hit is still considered an indie anthem. It reached no. 1 on several UK and US charts, but the band never enjoyed quite as much success outside of their native Australia again. “Fader” from 2009 almost got there, but didn’t break the Top 20 in the US. Thankfully, The Temper Trap is still rockin’ today.

2. “Seasons” by The Veer Union

Few bands kick off with a bang from the get-go, but that’s precisely what The Veer Union did with their debut 2009 single “Seasons”. The Canadian alternative metal outfit had a smash hit on their hands, and “Seasons” was even used as the theme song for the WWE Backlash pay-per-view that year. 

The song peaked at no. 10 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the US. Sadly, though, the band never hit the Top 10 again. They’re still together today.

3. “Crawl Back In” by Dead By Sunrise

The alt-rock jam came out in 2009 and was a major hit for Dead By Sunrise, also known as Chester Bennington’s other band outside of Linkin Park. “Crawl Back In” peaked at no. 9 on the US Active Rock chart and also charted pretty well in the UK, Germany, and Canada.

Dead By Sunrise released two other singles that year, but none of them charted except for “Fire”, which did somewhat well in Japan. The band only released one studio album before becoming more or less inactive and disbanded fully after Bennington’s death.

4. “Paralyzed” by Rock Kills Kid

There are many alt-rock one-hit wonders out there, but it’s hard to peg the 2006 track “Paralyzed” as exclusively alternative rock. Rock Kills Kid bounced between alternative rock and art punk quite often. 

“Paralyzed” reached no. 12 on the US Alternative Airplay chart, but the band’s other single “Hideaway” didn’t chart very well at all. The singles’ album Are You Nervous? was the band’s only studio album and they disbanded after a few short years in 2010.
