Unlike summer and winter, the season isn’t necessarily the music industry’s biggest period of commercial success. However, that doesn’t mean the music about and released during fall isn’t just as good as the rest. With this in mind, here are three songs to get you ready for the cool nights of fall.
1. “Autumn Leaves” by Frank Sinatra
What’s more relaxing than a sweater, a nice bowl of soup, and the voice of Frank Sinatra flooding the air? Nothing, the answer is nothing. “Autumn Leaves” by Frank Sinatra is a quintessential melancholic love story riddled with imagery depicting the changing of seasons.
Regardless of the potential for a tear or two, the song can’t help but make you live in the moment. Whether you’re raking the leaves on a Wednesday night or making dinner on a Sunday, this song will make you appreciate the little things fall has to offer.
2. “It Had To Be You,” by Harry Connick Jr.
Best known for being the theme song of the iconic film, When Harry Met Sally, and for Frank Sinatra’s cover. Harry Connick Jr’s version of the song has become a staple of fall due to its presence in the film. Set in both New York City and Chicago, When Harry Met Sally depicts an idealistic version of fall, and supplementing this depiction is Connick’s cover.
A perfect song for a date night or a stroll in a park full of orange leaves and yellow grass, it is a true autumn love song. If one wants their fall to be as cinematic as the movie, then they must add this song to their playlist.
3. “September Grass” by James Taylor
Released on his 2002 album, October Road, James Taylor’s song “September Grass” is the epitome of fall folklore. With soothing guitar riffs and lyrics about football and apple wine, the song is a celebration of the season.
Seemingly perfect for any fall activity, the song is bound to leave listeners nostalgic about the season before it even ends. So if this article tells you anything, it’s advising you to take a page out of Taylor’s book and lie down here right now in this September grass.
