1. “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” with Kacey Musgraves

Pop seems to be going country more often than not these days. Carpenter furthered that trend when she brought out Kacey Musgraves during her headlining slot at Outside Lands. The pair performed Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” Musgraves, of course, performed perfectly given her well-established country roots. Carpenter, despite her pop leaning, genre bended easily. Moreover, her retro affinity came in handy for this mid-’60s tune. It was the perfect mix between both artists’ styles. 2. “Don’t Know Why” with Norah Jones

If this list is indicative of anything (apart from her impeccable vocals and stage presence, of course) it’s that Carpenter has no trouble stepping into other genres. Her artistry is that versatile. During her Coachella set, Carpenter brought out Norah Jones for a slow, jazzy moment. Jones’ hit sounded as fresh as it did in 2002–albeit with a Carpenter twist.

3. “White Horse” with Taylor Swift

Carpenter has not been shy about expressing her love for Taylor Swift. So, when the pop mega star tapped Carpenter for an opening slot on her Eras Tour, it was only a matter of time before they duetted. Carpenter joined Swift at her piano for a heartwarming rendition of “White Horse” on one tour stop. It felt like the passing of the torch in many ways. Carpenter–with her honed performance skills–seems ready to receive it.
