Well I’m only twenty-two
So you’d think I’d be in touch
With MTV and Rock ‘n’ Roll
And Britney Spears and such
But I just can’t get into it
Something’s holding me back
Like when I see ‘em screaming at the microphone
Like they’re having a heart attack
Well rock ‘n’ roll just ain’t been the same
Since Cat Stevens went and changed his name
And Kiss should be the only band
That’s allowed to put make-up on a man
And I ain’t liked rock ‘n’ roll since Elvis died
Well there’s so many of ‘em
They’ve got those electric guitars
They crack ‘em loud and jump around
And they think that makes ‘em rock stars
And they’ve got names that don’t make sense
Like “The Burning Doorknob Lemers from Turkmenistan”
Seems like the longer and dumber the name
Oh the worse the band
Rock ‘n’ Roll just ain’t been the same
Since Ronnie Van Zandt got on that plane
And The Rolling Stones are the only band
That’s can “Start Me Up” when they sing “Street Fightin’ Man”
And I ain’t liked rock ‘n’ roll since John Lennon died
Punk rock and heavy metal
They say that’s all the rage
But I ain’t liked anything I’ve heard
Since Bob Seeger sang “Turn the Page”
Well I liked “Proud Mary”
And I love “Curtis Lowe”
But Chuck Berry and ol’ Buddy Holly
Where the hell did it all go?
And rock ‘n’ roll just ain’t been the same
Since Cat Stevens went and changed his name
And Kiss should be the only band
That’s allowed to put make-up on a man
And I ain’t liked rock ‘n’ roll since Duane Allman died
No I ain’t liked rock ‘n’ roll since Elvis died
