The year 2024 is coming to a close, and a ton of great music has come out this year. Just as well, quite a few excellent rock box sets were released in 2024 from some of the biggest musicians of the 20th (and 21st) century. Let’s take a look at our top picks from this year!

1. ‘1964 U.S. Albums In Mono’ by The Beatles

The Beatles have long since broken up, with half the members now gone. Still, The Beatles have had quite a year in 2024. Between documentaries and new musical releases, the Fab Four have proved that they won’t simply disappear into history. That much is true with the recent release of The Beatles box set 1964 U.S. Albums In Mono.

American Beatles fans famously got chopped up, very different versions of the Fab Four’s albums. The original British albums didn’t even get a proper US release until the late 1980s. This box set features the first seven Beatles albums in LP form. This version of The Beatles’ work removes the “fake” stereo that Capitol Records previously added, lending an authentic sound to a collection of work that should have originally been available to everyone.

2. ‘Ill Communication (30th Anniversary)’ by Beastie Boys

This is one of the most exciting 2024 rock box sets to get released thus far. Ill Communication is one of Beastie Boys’ most beloved albums, and this box set features the original LP, a bonus LP of remixes, a number of live tracks and B-sides, and more. It’s a must-have for fans.

3. ‘Mind Games: The Ultimate Collection’ by John Lennon

This is a pretty hefty box set, and for good reason. This Sean Ono Lennon-produced set features six different CDs, two Blu-rays full of John Lennon footage, album remixes, and more goodies. All of that is packed into a replica of Yoko Ono’s “Danger Box”.

4. ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star!’ by David Bowie

Out of all the 2024 rock box sets on this list, none provide insight into the secrets behind a life well-lived quite like Rock ‘N’ Roll Star! by David Bowie. Ever the master of reshaping his image, so much of Bowie’s creative process and personal life was hidden under lock and key. This box set, which features five different CDs and a Blu-ray packed with footage, showcases the work Bowie put into bringing Ziggy Stardust to life.

This set has outtakes, demos, handwritten lyrics, copies of Bowie’s lyrical notebooks, and so much more intimate material.
