“This Old Desk”

Videos by American Songwriter

Here I am once again old friend
Looking for magic one more time
Wondering if I’ve anything to say
And whether the words will rhyme

That darkened circle there
Is from my bottle of Old Crow
Whiskey stains and cigarette ash
A few blemishes I don’t know
I love all these cubby holes
Where bits and pieces of my life go
Guitar picks and my old radio
Townes Van Zandt tapes for my soul

This old desk is where I write
The songs I sing ‘most every night
I’ve used this old desk for years
It’s heard laughter, been washed in tears

This is where I wrote that song
That made you cry all night long
That hole there up on the wall
Is from the night you forgot to call
I’ve fallen asleep while sitting here
And awakened face down on a book
I stared at that painting on the wall
There are things worth another look

Here I am once again old friend
Looking for magic one more time
Wondering if I’ve anything to say
And whether the words will rhyme

This old desk is where I write
The songs I sing ‘most every night
I’ve used this old desk for years
It’s heard laughter, been washed in tears
